A balance transfer credit card can save you lots of money. That’s because a business credit card balance transfer lets you take existing debt (usually from a high-interest card) and transfer it to a new account (usually with a low-interest card). That way, you can repay your debt at a lower interest rate.

But a business credit card balance transfer will only save you money if you pick the right card. You don’t want to go from one expensive card to another, after all.

That’s why we compared transfer fees, transfer APR, and more to find the best cards for all your business balance transfer needs―and your everyday credit needs too. Most businesses will do best with the U.S. Bank Triple Cash Rewards Visa® Business Card, but it’s just one of several good options.

Choosing a balance transfer credit card

When you choose a balance transfer card (whether it’s a business credit card or personal credit card), you want to make sure you’re choosing a card that makes it easier to pay off your credit card debt.

That means you should look for a low APR (annual percentage rate) on your new balance transfer card. Otherwise, you may end up shuffling your debt around without making much of a dent in it.

Fortunately, good balance transfer cards offer low rates, with many even offering 0% interest for a certain time after your account opening. That gives you an opportunity to pay off your debt without worrying about new interest charges.

Interest aside, you also want to look at balance transfer fees. Most cards come with a balance transfer fee that’s either a flat dollar amount or a percentage of your transferred debt―whichever is higher. So if you’re transferring a lot of debt, you may end up paying a surprising amount in transfer fees if you’re not careful.

Of course, we also recommend looking for a small-business credit card that works for more than just balance transfers. You may want to look for a card that offers robust rewards (like cash back or miles), a low purchase APR, free employee cards, and other perks that help your business.

Meet our favorite balance transfer credit card: the U.S. Bank Triple Cash Rewards Visa® Business Card.

While it may have an overly complicated name, this card offers simple benefits that make it a clear standout.

It all starts with the promotional balance transfer APR, which gives you more than one year of 0% introductory APR on your transferred credit card balance. That’s not quite the longest introductory APR period we’ve seen (you’ll want U.S. Bank’s other card for that), but it still gives you plenty of time to pay off your debt before worrying about interest charges. After that, you get a competitive (though not amazing) balance transfer 17.44%–26.74% variable APR.

Even setting aside its balance transfer offer, the U.S. Bank Triple Cash Rewards Visa® Business Card offers a great credit card experience. It earns cash back rewards on all your purchases, with a reward rate between 1% (on most purchases) and 3% (on gas, office supply, and cell phone expenses).

And if you spend $4,500 in your first 150 days, you get a sizable $500 bonus reward. Plus, you get an annual cash back bonus of up to $100. In other words, you have plenty of opportunities to get rewarded for your business purchases. Not bad for a card with no annual fee.

Put simply, the U.S. Bank Triple Cash Rewards Visa® Business Card has great perks for balance transfers and everyday use alike―making it our pick for the best small-business credit card for balance transfers.

Pros
pro 15-month introductory promotional APR
pro Cash back rewards
pro Above-average welcome bonus
Cons
con Lower reward rate on most purchases

Wells Fargo Business Platinum Credit Card: Best ongoing APR

Wells Fargo Business Platinum Credit Card
$0.00 annual fee
  • pro
0% purchase APR for 9 cycles
  • pro
    Prime + 7.99%–Prime + 17.99% variable APR after
  • pro
1–1.5% cash back or 1–1.5x points
  • pro
$300 bonus cash back or 30,000 bonus points after spending $3,000 in 3 mos.

Data effective as of 12/13/22. Offers and availability may vary by location and are subject to change.

You don’t want to make a business credit card balance transfer only to rack up debt on your new credit card―which is why the low ongoing APR on the Wells Fargo Business Platinum Credit Card comes in handy.

This card from Wells Fargo offers the lowest ongoing purchase APR of any credit card on this list. Its variable interest rates start at the Prime rate plus 7.99%―or 13.49% as of this writing―and go up to Prime + 17.99% . That makes the Wells Fargo Business Platinum Credit Card an affordable option for your regular purchases. And that low interest rate only kicks in after an introductory APR period that gives you 0% on both balance transfers and new purchases.

Keep in mind, though, that the Wells Fargo Business Platinum Credit Card may not be your best bet for later balance transfers. It comes with higher than average balance transfer fees, and balance transfers after your introductory APR period will get assigned a surprisingly high rate for an otherwise affordable card. In other words, this card works best for balance transfers immediately after your account opening.

Even so, the Wells Fargo Business Platinum Credit Card can work well for balance transfers―and even better for an affordable interest rate on your new purchases.

Pros
pro Very low starting purchase APR

U.S. Bank Business Platinum Card: Best intro APR for balance transfers

U.S. Bank Business Platinum Card
$0.00 annual fee
  • pro
0% purchase APR for 20 cycles
  • pro
    15.74%–24.74% variable APR after
  • pro
    No rewards
  • pro
    No new cardmember offers

Data effective as of 12/13/22. Offers and availability may vary by location and are subject to change.

Want the lowest possible interest rate for your balance transfer card? Check out the U.S. Bank Business Platinum Card.

This card gets you the longest possible introductory APR, with a balance transfer offer of 0% intro APR for 20 billing cycles. That’s more than a year and a half with no interest on your transferred credit card balance. And even when you enter billing cycle 21, you’ll get a great rate on future debt transfers, with a variable APR between 15.74% and 24.74%.

The tradeoff? The U.S. Bank Business Platinum Card doesn’t earn any rewards―no cash back, bonus points, or travel rewards. Likewise, you don’t get a promotional offer for spending a certain amount after your account opening. So while you get an affordable balance transfer card, you don’t get to reap all the benefits of a rewards card―a pretty big downside for a business credit card.

Still, the U.S. Bank Business Platinum Card offers the best APR we’ve found on balance transfers―which may be worth the lack of rewards.

Pros
pro Longest promotional APR period
pro Low regular balance transfer APR
Cons
con No way to earn rewards
con No bonus offers for new cardmembers

Spark Cash Select/Spark Miles Select from Capital One: Lowest balance transfer fees

Spark Cash Select/Spark Miles Select from Capital One
$0.00 annual fee
  • pro
0% purchase APR for 9 cycles
  • pro
    15.49%–25.49% variable APR after
  • pro
1.5% cash back or 1.5x miles
  • con
    No new cardmember offers

Data effective as of 12/13/22. Offers and availability may vary by location and are subject to change.

Want your balance transfer transaction to be as cheap as possible? Get a balance transfer card with no transfer fee―like Capital One Spark Cash Select for Business or Capital One Spark Miles Select for Business.

All the other cards on this list charge transfer fees when you initiate a balance transfer. Since those fees are usually a percentage of the transferred credit card balance, they can add up really fast. But the Capital One Spark Cash Select for Business and Capital One Spark Miles Select for Business cards (which are the same, aside from earning cash rewards and travel rewards, respectively) don’t charge any transfer fee. So you can transfer your whole credit card balance for free.

Unfortunately, things get more expensive from there. Capital One Spark Cash Select for Business and Capital One Spark Miles Select for Business don’t offer any promotional interest rate on balance transfers, so you’ll start paying interest charges on your debt right away. But depending on your transfer amount and how quickly you plan to pay off your credit card debt, the lack of transfer fees may still make these Capital One cards the most affordable choice. You’ll have to do the math for yourself.

Simply put, Capital One Spark Cash Select for Business and Capital One Spark Miles Select for Business may not give you affordable rates, but their lack of transfer fees make them worth considering for your balance transfer card needs.

Pros
pro No balance transfer fees
pro Cash back and points rewards options
Cons
con No promotional APR for balance transfers
con High maximum balance transfer APR

Spark 1% Classic: Best for low credit

Spark 1% Classic
$0.00 annual fee
  • pro
    No promotional purchase APR
  • pro
    1% cash back rewards
  • pro
    No new cardmember offers

Data effective as of 12/13/22. Offers and availability may vary by location and are subject to change.

If you like the idea of no balance transfer fees but you’re worried about credit approval, you can go with a different Capital One card: Spark 1% Classic.

The Spark  1% Classic card doesn’t charge any balance transfer fee (or annual fee or employee card fee, for that matter). So like the Capital One Spark Cash Select for Business and Capital One Spark Miles Select for Business, it can make your balance transfer transaction cheaper. But the Spark 1% Classic was designed for businesses with poor credit history (or no credit history). So it’s easier to qualify for than other cards on this list.

Unfortunately, that also makes it more expensive. The Spark 1% Classic has a starting APR of 26.99%―higher than the maximum APR of many cards. So if you don’t plan to repay your credit card balance ASAP, you’ll probably end up deeper in debt.

That means we don’t recommend the Spark 1% Classic for most balance transfer needs. But if you need easy credit approval and you can repay your transferred debt quickly (especially if you don’t have to pay a transfer fee), the Spark 1% Classic might work for you.

Pros
pro Low credit score requirement
pro No balance transfer fees
Cons
con No promotional APR for balance transfers or purchases
con High balance transfer APR

Honorable mentions

The cards above are our favorite for balance transfers, thanks to their introductory rates, low rates, and affordable balance transfer fees.

But lots of business credit cards let you transfer credit card balances―they just don’t offer the same kinds of balance transfer perks our recommended cards do.

So if you haven’t seen a card you like yet, you may want to consider one of these alternative options. (Just remember that you’ll likely end up paying more on your balance transfer.)

While the Ink Business Cash Credit Card doesn’t have amazing balance transfer perks, it is our overall favorite business credit card. That’s because it earns a high maximum reward rate, has a great welcome bonus, gives you a competitive APR, and has other nice features.

But though the Ink Business Cash Credit Card will let you do a balance transfer, you’ll have to pay fees and a normal APR. So you may want to think about how those downsides compare to all its upsides.

Chase Ink Business Unlimited Credit Card: Best flat-rate rewards

Chase Ink Business Unlimited Credit Card

  • pro
0% introductory APR on purchases for 12 mos.; 16.99%-22.99% thereafter

If you want flat-rate rewards―the same rewards rate on each dollar you spend―we suggest going with Chase’s Ink Business Unlimited Credit Card. It lets you earn 1.5% cash back on all your spending. Plus, this card comes with a great welcome bonus and decent APR, making it better than some other flat-rate cards.

As with Chase’s other cards, though, you’ll still have to pay for balance transfers fees and a standard APR.

American Express Blue Business Cash™ Card/Blue Business® Plus Credit Card: Best for instant approval

The American Express Blue Business Cash™ Card and Blue Business® Plus Credit Card let you earn cash back or points (respectively) on your purchases. But their big feature? You can approve within seconds, and you can start using your new card right away too. So if you want to do a balance transfer right away, these cards can help.

Just remember that you’ll have to pay fees on that balance transfer. And yep, you’ll be subject to the usual APR too.

Chase Ink Business Preferred Credit Card: Best for points rewards

Ink Business Preferred Credit Card
$95.00 annual fee
  • pro
    No promotional purchase APR: 19.74%-24.74%
  • pro
    1–3x points rewards
  • pro

Data effective 12/13/22. At publishing time, amounts, rates, and requirements are current but are subject to change. Offers may not be available in all areas.

We’ve featured a lot of cash back cards on our list. But for businesses that prefer to redeem points, we suggest the Ink Business Preferred Credit Card from Chase. It offers a high maximum reward rate and a great welcome bonus for new cardholders, so you can earn plenty of points on your business expenses.

Of course, you’ll have those pesky balance transfer fees and APR to deal with―just like on any Chase business card.

U.S. Bank Business Leverage® Visa Signature® Card: Best separation of business and personal credit

U.S. Bank Business Leverage® Visa Signature® Card
$95.00 annual fee*
  • pro
    No promotional purchase APR: 18.24%-23.24%
  • pro
    1–2% cash back rewards
  • pro
$750 in bonus cash after spending $7,500 in 120 days from account opening

Data effective 12/13/22. At publishing time, amounts, rates, and requirements are current but are subject to change. Offers may not be available in all areas.

*Annual fee waived for the first year

The U.S. Bank Business Leverage Visa Signature Card gives you 1% cash back on most purchases and 2% on two bonus categories―and those categories automatically change each month to whatever categories you spend the most in. That makes this card great for maximizing your rewards with little effort on your part.

But while U.S. Bank offers two of our favorite business credit cards for balance transfers, this one doesn’t give you a promotional APR, and it makes you pay balance transfer fees.

The takeaway

For most businesses, U.S. Bank is the best card issuer for balance transfers. Its U.S. Bank Triple Cash Rewards Visa® Business Card offers a great promotional APR on balance transfers and has a strong rewards program, making it a great card for balance transfers and future business expenses.

And speaking of future business expenses, the Wells Fargo Business Platinum Credit Card offers the best ongoing purchase APR, so it can work for balance transfers and everyday spending. But if you’re mostly interested in balance transfers, the U.S. Bank Business Platinum Card offers the best APR on balance transfers―both during its long introductory period and after. Or, if you just want to save on balance transfer fees rather than APR, you can go with the Capital One Spark Cash Select for Business or the Capital One Spark Miles Select for Business, or (for low credit) the Spark 1% Classic―none of which charge balance transfer fees.

Whatever card you go with, we hope your balance transfer makes your debt more manageable.

Balance transfer credit card FAQ

Yes, you can transfer a credit card balance from one business card to another. Not every business credit card allows for balance transfers, though, so you’ll need to make sure you pick one that does (like our recommended cards above).

A balance transfer can potentially hurt your credit score, at least for a while.

That’s because your credit score is based on factors like the age of your accounts, so a new credit card will temporarily ding your credit. Likewise, hard credit inquiries can hurt your credit score―and you’ll definitely get a hard credit check when you apply for a credit card.

That said, a balance transfer could help your credit score in the long run. If a new credit card offers a much lower interest rate than your old card, you’ll be able to pay off your debt sooner―and that can lead to an improved credit score.

So while a balance transfer can hurt your credit score, it may be worth taking the hit if it lets you repay your credit card debt.
